Boundary Poem
Why are boundaries so hard to draw?
I wish there could be universal laws.
Where people would know they had gone too far.
And stop their actions before it left deep scars.
When you choose your boundary it gives you power.
So you don't feel the need to run and cower.
As a child those choices were taken away.
As an adult you have the choice to let people prey
On your emotional or physical well being it's all the same
You have no one but on yourself to put the blame.
It's so hard to say something and make a stand.
There is so much fear they might reprimand.
I'm not scared of the physical retribution
As I am scared of the intense verbal reaction.
If you choose your boundaries principles they become
But if you let others choose they become wearisome.
You become imprisoned by another's beliefs
Which will give you heartache and a lot of grief.
Sometimes I feel guilty for standing up for myself
Like it's not right to consider your feelings and yourself.
But my thoughts and feelings have every right to be known
For no other reason than they are all my own.
