The following are suggested ways to improve your overall mental wellness.  They are not for everyone and will not work for everyone, however they can be effective tools for some.  Enjoy and if you have suggestions you'd like us to consider for this list, e-mail them to transitionhouse@coxinet.net

When things get hectic, take a Breathing Break.  Slowly take in a deep breath, hold it for a 4 count, slowly exhale.  Repeat.

Give yourself a hug.  If possible, pull your knees into your chest, wrap your arms around your legs, and hug yourself.
bullet
Buy yourself some flowers.

Give yourself permission to cuddle a stuffed animal.

Play!!!  You know the saying about "all work and no play...."
bullet
If possible, take a walk.  It doesn't have to be for exercise.  Simply be out in nature and enjoy its wonders.
bullet
Tell yourself "I Love You."
bullet
Write yourself a list of the things you are proud of in your life.  It's OK to brag a little -- you deserve to know how wonderful you are.

If you have a pet, take some time to play with your pet.  Of course, if it is a cat, you may need to get permission from the cat first!
bullet
Tell yourself a joke.  If you don't know any, find someone who does and ask them to share and/or get a joke book.
bullet
Laugh!  Laughter is important and we are taught too often to contain our joys.
bullet
Tell people you love that you love them.  It's important to share what you feel with the loved ones in your life.
